NSW: Man dies during attempted robbery

A security guard has fatally shot a man during a bungled holdup in inner Sydney.

Police say the man, believed to be in his early to mid 20s, died in Royal Prince AlfredHospital this morning.

He was shot during the attempted robbery of a security vehicle outside a function centreat Wentworth Park late last night.

A second man fled the scene.

Police say the security guards were confronted outside the building at about 11.20pmand one shot was fired.

The wounded man was taken by ambulance to hospital but died a few hours later.

Police are seeking a second man last seen leaving the area in a silver-coloured Holden Commodore.
